On the eve of a dramatic shift in a country’s political-cultural environment, allow me to share one more conviction in the midst of all the noise.

If I am radical about anything, it will be Jesus. If I’m devoted to anything, it will be His Kingdom. All other forms of governing fall miserably short of what we all say we desire. No politic exists in this world where power does not eventually abuse or the powerful does not ultimately oppress. Even in a pure democracy, without checks and balances, the form gives preference to the majority over the minority.

Philosophy, politics, and culture can never capture the heart and intent of the Lord’s dreams from the beginning—a world governed under the truly benevolent rule of a perfect King whose only desire is to see His love create the perfect environment for all life to flourish.

So, if I can encourage you to believe anything about your vote, today, trust not in which side rules next, but that we’re one step closer toward the “Eden” promised by the Father of our hearts.

In the meantime, may we create the space and nation for His love to flourish.

  1. Psalm 20.7-8:
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
    8 They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright.
